The homegrown outdoor exhibition held on the Toronto Islands will fill the
islands' natural
spaces with thought-provoking sculpture and installations. Like the fluid phenomenon it is named for, ROGUE WAVE has previously taken place at irregular and seemingly random times,
but this September, art lovers and visitors to the Toronto Islands will have several weeks to explore the islands' secret places and interact with art.
Exhibition open daily. Maps locating works available at Rogue Wave 2018 kiosk, Ward’s Island Ferry Dock or go to maps page and download the printable map or use our interactive map.

ROGUE WAVE Theme
Rogue Wave 2018 honours and acknowledges that the Toronto Islands are part of the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the New Credit.
This year, ROGUE WAVE 2018 challenges artists to create pieces that respond to our changing relationships with water and land. Stewardship of our natural environment has become universally crucial and demands a heartfelt change of perspective to recognize and protect the natural environment we are privileged to be part of.
ROGUE WAVE Artists:
This exhibition is an inclusive venue; artists range in experience from professional artists with national reputations to artists working outside their traditional media to emerging artists and new collaborations. What links them all is their delight in installing imaginative, often humorous and sometimes profound artworks in a unique and magical place - the Toronto Islands.
ROGUE WAVE History:
ROGUE WAVE was founded by four Island residents in the spring of 1998. Prior to this, ‘rogue’ art installations had appeared on the Island only to be removed by Parks Department staff. The creation of the ROGUE WAVE organization has allowed artists to work in collaboration with the City’s Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department on several successful exhibitions over the last two decades. As a result, over 20,000 people have ferried across beautiful Toronto harbour to experience a wide range of works, including site-specific installations, collaborative projects, pre-existing pieces that have been re-located, pirate radio broadcasts, fire and water sculptures, photographic installations and musical events. Now, 20 years since it's official inception...ROGUE WAVE is rising again to effect change!
Rogue Wave 2018 is supported by Artscape Gibraltar Point, City of Toronto Parks, Forestry & Recreation Division, Shadowland Theatre,
local businesses & organizations, and the Toronto Island Community.
